| Notes: | Jan 2, 12 - To most everyone the word Caesar conveys the image of a Roman emperor. Historically speaking however a Caesar was only a rank secondary to that of Augustus, the formal title of a Roman emperor. Drusus was one such caesar who never made that final promotion. He had been the brother and eventual hopeful to Tiberius, the successor to Augustus (aka Octavian) but was murdered in a plot hatched between his own wife Livilla and her lover Sejanus, a very Machiavellical character who almost outfoxed the system but eventually would be caught, tried and executed.
Drusus enjoyed a modest run of these copper coins and are found today with enough regularity though they can't really be considered 'common'. Part of my Roman Emperors collection |
