| Notes: | Aug 27, 05 - For some reason Gordian III really wasn't all that crazy about his wife sharing the limelight with him. Although there's nothing to suggest that he, a teenager after all, had some big ego thing or was a misogynist the truth is that out of the tens of thousands of coins left from his reign very, very few have her name and face on them. In fact, it would be nearly impossible to add a Roman-made coin of hers to a collection like this because they are so rare and expensive.
But out a ways off from stuffy Rome the Greeks loved her and had no qualms about letting her share some coin time alongside Gordy. And so this cheapie will fill the slot until such time as my luck and budget allow for a proper Denarius. Not really sure if the day will ever come that I can swing ten or fifteen grand on a coin but... Free, found among uncleaned coins. |
