| Notes: | Jan 21, 08 - Marcus Aurelius is remembered today as a "Philosopher emperor" sharing that distinction also with Julian II who came a couple of centuries later.
He was born a royal so to speak and commended into the care of Antoninus Pius by Hadrian. Both men would grow very close and trusting relationships. Once Pius died he ruled for the first nine years together with his adoptive brother Lucius Verus then by himself for another ten. Roman historians gush over his kindness, his wisdom and his talents as a statesman but curse the awful crazy-ass son he left the world upon his own passing: Commodus. |
