| Notes: | Dec 31, 07 - According to the historians of his day Elagabalus was incompetent, cruel and, above all else, an out and out pervert. His rule follows that of the much more sedate one of Macrinus whom he deposed in an unlikely rebellion of which he was an equally unlikely victor.
He comes to Rome and shocks the citizens of the capital city with one outrage after another. He introduces a bizarre worship of the sun embodied in a meteorite he has brought from his native Syria. He then commits the cardinal sin of violating the sanctity of going into the temple of the Vestal Virgins and selecting for himself the prettiest one and marrying her... then with equal offhandedness divorces her to marry some other girl. He is really not seeking to sate promiscuity but an altogether more scandalous goal: to be a woman himself. Not sufficing to stop at being an ancient drag queen he questions whether it is possible to have surgery to make him a full blown transsexual. He is, unfortunately, a couple millenia too early for such a procedure. Elagabalus lasts a remarkable four years on the throne before the army has had enough putting up with this clown and one morning simply murders him along with his family.
