About this seller
Notes:Jan 13, 08 - Lucius Verus was the worse half of the novel power sharing scheme with brother Marcus Aurelius. Although groomed for the position of an emperor from shortly before the death of Hadrian, and through the lengthy reign of Antoninus Pius, he was definitely the junior partner of the two noble sons under Pius' care.

But Verus did not appear to resent the shadow cast by his adopted brother Marcus who raised him to co-emperor the very day he himself had the laurel crown placed on his head. Marcus Aurelius was the undisputed master statesman, philosopher and visionary while Verus was more the laid back kind of guy who got his kicks living the high life in a quiet sort of way. The two of them apparently got along just fine.

He "led" the successful war against the Parthians, a taxing but ultimately successful campaign. "Led" in quotes, yes, because he had absolutely no shame in telling his generals to go out and fight like Romans while he himself dabbled safely behind the front wining and dining and dabbling in the vices of a Roman emperor. His number was up on the way back from said war when he caught the plague or smallpox some similarly nasty ailment that finished him off in a hurry.

There are plenty of coins out there for this good-times emperor but they are nonetheless harder to find than those of Marcus Aurelius.
