| Notes: | Apr 20, 08 - Constantius II was a fairly unremarkable emperor whose claim to fame, asides from being the last surviving son of Constantine I, was that he was emperor for a quarter of a century. He was said to be able to ride around in his chariot for hours unfliching and staring ahead like a stuffed animal. This, we're supposed to guess, has something to do with his being perceived by his subjects as otherworldly and divine.
He did fight off a lengthy list of rivals until he died of natural causes... leaving his last rival, Julian II, more than a little relieved as he was heading over to kick his butt with the world's then best trained army. This is not my first Roman gold coin but it is the earliest so far. As a general trend, with Roman gold the earlier you go the more expensive they get. This one's a bit worn so it's nothing special. | ||||
