When the time comes for me to mail in my coins for professional photos, this sucker will be towards the top of my list. My scan is unbarably awful compared to what might be possible if only I'd had this coin professionaly photographed. *Sigh* The detail around Philip's hair and radiate crown give you an idea of what is visible in hand. At any rate, this is a relatively high grade specimen struck for Philip II shortly after being elevated to Augustus. This particular coin has an error in the obverse legend by having too many "M"'s present. The legend itself is taken directly from his father's coins, which is the source of much debate and confusion as discussed in the notes on this coin: http://www.tantaluscoins.com/coins/24236.php Please note the discussion in the above coin regarding this coin's portrait and how it would eventualy be used by the mint for Pacatian's image. All in all, a nice and relatively uncommon coin. |
