| Notes: | Mar 17, 12 - Maximinus was rumored to be this huge brute who could kill a man with his bare hands and down epic quantities of food and wine. He bided his time under service to Severus Alexander while earning the loyalty of his men and, when the time was right, mutinied and had the emperor and his Mom murdered in cold blood. His revolt was sucessful but he was never accepted by the terrified Roman senatorial elite whose wealth was being gobbled up by his henchmen. In a bold move the Senators backed the leader of a minor revolt in Africa and thus sealed their fate. The revolt was unsuccessful but they named two of their own, Balbinus and Pupienus, to be co-emperors and hurried them into action to suppress a now very pissed off Maximinus. For his part Maximinus ran into trouble on his advance towards Rome and was, to everyone's temporary relief, killed by some of his own soldiers who for some reason saw the situation as hopeless.
And here you have your average Max Denarius; could be better, could be worse. Part of my Roman Emperors collection |
