This beauty is the only depiction of the empress Tranquillina to be struck for the Viminacium bronze series. Highly desired in almost any condition and very rare. The notable absence of Tranquillina is rather puzzling considering how frequently she is found on coins from Viminacium's neighbors. The puzzle is further complicated because there appears to be no taboo against women appearing on Viminacium coins (O. Severa, Etruscilla, and Marinianae all appear on Viminacium coins - although far less common then thier male counterparts). This coin completes my collection of persons who appear on Viminacium coins. |
