| Notes: | Apr 14, 10 - Note the Gothic script; neo-Gothic was in vogue at that period of the 19th century. The florin (2s) was introduced in 1848 as part of an attempt to introduce decimal coinage; the halfcrown (2s6d) was dropped shortly thereafter, but eventually it returned and both coins continued to be minted until decimalisation finally came in 1971, the florin continuing to circulate as 10p. In better condition, this is a very attractive coin; this example was very cheap. |
