Notes:	Aug 23, 05 - Among the over 200 different people featured on ancient Roman coins only one is honored with a coin series who is neither an imperial by blood nor a rebel general. Agrippa was just a good friend of Augustus who remained loyal to him for decades. He held office as consul three times, a largely ceremonial position reserved for select members of the Senatorial class, emperors and other VIP's but Agrippa himself was never on the fast track to become emperor nor did it appear that he wanted to be. However, because of his closeness with Augustus he ended up marrying his daughter Livia who would become the kingpin of the Julio-Claudian line by giving birth to the future emperor Tiberius and Germanicus. Through their marriage and offspring Agrippa became the great-grandfather of Caligula who finally honors him with an extensive coin series in bronze sixty years after his death. Coins just like this one are sold every day on ebay - and this is about par for the course in terms of condition but many that in nicer shape (and tons that are worse) are available.
