| Notes: | Jan 14, 12 - 10.98 Grams before Cleaning
10.81 Grams After Cleaning 0.17 Grams of Dirt/Encrustation Taken off of Coin. Took 6.5 Hrs to clean using a jewelers loupe and sewing needle. Retoned using the liver of sulfer method on 1/13/2012. This issue is a key transitional point in the evolution of Roman Bronze coinage. It still has the well known SC reverse, but now with Imperial titles as opposed to the normal moneyers titles. The portraits also show a marked improvement in style and execution. This issue hinted at the profound artistic greatness that was to become standard for Roman bronze coinage in the near future (Source: David Ledford). |
