| Notes: | Aug 23, 05 - Although very common, the great majority of coins bearing the name and portrait of Salonina are in bad shape. They were the last of the mass-issue silver coins for Roman citizens. But by this time they had been heavily debased. Silver in the ground fares well overall, suffering only tarnishing. But because the coins of this period were mostly junk metal most of the coin corroded away leaving a ghastly carcass of the leftover silver. For most coins they just look like dark, poor quality copper coins. In a few cases the coins that had more silver in them to begin with, like this one, just suffered some potmarking. | ||||
