| Notes: | Mar 17, 12 - One of my favorite coins in the emperor set turns out to not be an emperor after all. Like most other empresses of this period, history records precious little about them other than what one can see on the extant coins; namely, what hairstyles were in fashion. Other than that, upon Aurelian's untimely death she apparently held on to her title and must have been, at least technically, the ruler of the empire until the Senate convened several weeks or months later to elect Tacitus as his replacement. But her contemporary historians fail to find any reason whatsoever to mention any of her deeds or misdeeds or her post-Tacitus destiny. So, well, all we're left with is to wonder when this groovy 'do will become fashionable again.
It hardly need be said that this coin is in an exceptional state of preservation. It wasn't cheap but to me it was worth every dollar. I can't foresee ever having another I'd rather replace it with. Part of my Roman Emperors collection | ||||
