to the second joe - expanding past coins into books was a design goal from the beginning but the site got caught up in a lot of bug fixing, tweaks and fleshing out the tools needed by everyone to manage their collections. i'm still interested in expanding not just into books but stamps and other collectibles. artifacts was recently requested as well. the stumbling block here really is one of money to develop the code. it is, to not mince words, a major financial commitment as the code engine would need to be overhauled and follow a prolonged period of testing to make sure new sections play well with the coins.

right now paid membership is rather low - only about a couple dozen active members. the income is enough to run the dedicated server and offsite backups as well as to (slowly) add a feature here and there but is all the same a slim war chest to plunk down major cash into adding new modules and their templates... particularly if the investment doesn't increase the membership.

i'm still trying to figure out the formula of what it would take to convince coin collectors in general to host their collections here. i know that data entry can be a pain and many users loathe taking pictures of their coins but my thinking has been all along that if i keep upgrading the feature set while holding the membership fees at some point it becomes a "no brainer" to join. it is for this reason i'd prefer to concentrate fully on getting coin collectors of all sorts before spreading myself too thin into other areas.

Default Template - Feedback ?

Rasiel:
Well, I posted the fields as you suggested but I did not receive any comment or feedback from you on your thoughts.

I kept all of your fields.... and followed your request to limit any new or changed names.

So.... I'm not sure what is next.... and it seems no one else is commenting.

Also the I saw how the "Joes" were confusing.... thought I would go by Mr-K or JoeK to seperate both of us.

it just means i haven't gotten to it yet.

i'm still trying to fix the feature request to add coins to more than one album. how this happens is not very efficient. i send emails to a number of programmers (there are 3 at the moment) requesting a solution then wait til they get back to me with a proposal. at this point it seems it's not a very easy problem to tackle as many files have to be updated to make this work as requested. meanwhile this request sits on queue waiting. i know you've been waiting for a long time and i remain committed to making these changes... just give me a bit more time.

Smile Time....

Rasiel:

No problem..... whenever I roll out a new technology to my staff I want to make sure it is right.

There is nothing worse than rolling out a broken item to 400 users in my building. I can imagine what you might face.

Default Reverse legends

Ras,

I'm a recent Tantalus convert, and am slowly getting the hang of it all and building up my collection on the site. One thing I have noticed is that the obverse legend field doesn't seem to cope with the rather lengthy legends of the later Seleucid kings I have been entering - I have run out of room and have had to copy the end of the legend into the description section which is not ideal.
Is there a way around this? Can the field be expanded to allow for these rather verbose legends?

Cheers

Dan

Talking Improving the gallery.

Ras,
You should read the thread about how to improve the gallery.

I reckon that the gallery program from www.photopost.com should be downloaded to replace the gallery program that is on here.

The gallery should become a worldwide equivilant of http://www.zeno.ru ,but there would have to be sections for banknotes.

You can get ideas for the information fields here; http://www.coinnetwork.com/group/wor...allerycampaign .

The guidelines for uploading photos should be based on what is here; http://zeno.ru/htm/rules-en.htm .

What do you think?

Aidan.
